Chad Brown Campaign
No one who has watched Chad Brown play would suspect that he once thought asthma might end his football career, but he was diagnosed with asthma in 1998 after collapsing during a game, unable to breathe. The diagnosis came as a surprise, he says, but also a relief, because it solved the mystery of symptoms he'd been trying to ignore.
Having learned firsthand what asthma can do if left untreated, Brown agreed to serve as honorary chairman of the American Lung Association® of Washington's statewide multimedia campaign to raise asthma awareness. Now he is helping children and adults with asthma to understand that asthma doesn't have to keep anyone on the sidelines. He should know - asthma didn't keep him from recently being voted to the AFC Pro Bowl team for the second year in a row.
The asthma awareness campaign, part of the American Lung Association®'s Washington Asthma Initiative, includes billboards, transit ads, television public service announcements and a video news release, along with posters and book covers, all featuring Chad Brown in his Seahawks uniform. The message is that asthma doesn't have to stop anyone: "Asthma's tough. You're tougher."
