Southwest Washington Asthma Coalition

Brief History

The first kick-off event for the Southwest Washington Asthma Coalition was held in August of 2005, and our first official meeting in October of 2005. Since that time the Coalition has accomplished the following successes.

Accomplishments

Conference
The Southwest Washington Asthma Summit 2006 was held on May 6th at a local high school in Camas, WA. A CME event designed to meet the educational needs of primary care providers, school nurses, and other health care professionals who share in the care of school age children with asthma.
Flu-vaccine Awareness Campaign
The campaign objective was to promote increased awareness of the importance of an annual flu vaccine for persons with asthma. During the process, our committee created a Coalition logo and posters; both created by Jason Friesen, M.D. The posters were distributed to our members who delivered the posters locally to over 30 school districts in addition to pharmacies and clinics. A quarter page color advertisement of the poster ran in The Columbian Newspaper on November 17, 2006.
